    Personalizable Service Discovery in Pervasive Systems

    Today, telecom providers are facing changing challenges. To stay ahead in the competition and provide market leading offerings, carriers need to enable a global ecosystem of third party independent application developers to deliver converged services. This is the aim of leveraging a open standardsbased service delivery platform. To identify and to cope with those challenges is the main target of the EU funded project IST DAIDALOS II. And a central point to satisfy the changing user needs is the provision of a well working, user friendly and personalized service discovery. This paper describes our work in the project on a middleware in a framework for pervasive service usage. We have designed an architecture for it, that enables full transparency to the user, grants high compatibility and extendability by a modular and pluggable conception and allows for interoperability with most known service discovery protocols. Our Multi-Protocol Service Discovery and the Four Phases Service Filtering concept enabling personalization should allow for the best possible results in service discovery

    Implementation of MATLAB libraries and related technical documents for Accurate Positioning in Intelligent Transport System

    A proof-of-concept project was started in the JRC in early 2014 to investigate and design a framework to improve positioning accuracy in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) on the basis of the IMU sensors. In the first phase of the project, a theoretical framework was defined and described in Report EUR 27042 EN. This technical report describes in detail the technical solution adopted to implement the theoretical framework as a MATLAB library providing dedicated functionalities to apply for an Accurate Positioning in Intelligent Transport System (which is the second phase of the project). The mathematical framework developed in the first phase of the project has been implemented into a working and self-standing MATLAB library. The MATLAB library is composed by three functional blocks: the Extended Kalman Filter, the vehicle’s status estimation module and the Particle Filter. The MATLAB library is capable of ingesting data in batch or real-time fashion. It elaborates the acquired data and displays the results by means of easy to understand graphs. It interoperates with the OpenStreetMap maps to provide georeferenced results. The report describes the main modules of the MATLAB library, how they are connected and how they must be used. The report also describes the testing scenarios and the results of the tests. Finally, the technical report provides recommendations on the future developments of this MATLAB library. The MATLAB implementation and the report have been completely produced by ARES2T.     Distributed workload control for federated service discovery

    The diffusion of the internet paradigm in each aspect of human life continuously fosters the widespread of new technologies and related services. In the Future Internet scenario, where 5G telecommunication facilities will interact with the internet of things world, analyzing in real time big amounts of data to feed a potential infinite set of services belonging to different administrative domains, the role of a federated service discovery will become crucial. In this paper the authors propose a distributed workload control algorithm to handle efficiently the service discovery requests, with the aim of minimizing the overall latencies experienced by the requesting user agents. The authors propose an algorithm based on the Wardrop equilibrium, which is a gametheoretical concept, applied to the federated service discovery domain. The proposed solution has been implemented and its performance has been assessed adopting different network topologies and metrics. An open source simulation environment has been created allowing other researchers to test the proposed solution

    Post-irradiation effect analysis on XLPE-insulated LV cables used in nuclear power plants

    This paper investigates aging of low voltage cables used in nuclear power plants by the means of the dielectric spectroscopy technique. Aging has been performed on XLPE cables through high temperature and different dose rates in order to evaluate the electrical response under different aging conditions. Test have been carried out immediately after aging and years after the radiation source has been turned off. Significant changes in dielectric response have been observed due to postirradiation effects, suggesting that degradation continues even after the aging source has been removed

    Multi-agent quality of experience control

    In the framework of the Future Internet, the aim of the Quality of Experience (QoE) Control functionalities is to track the personalized desired QoE level of the applications. The paper proposes to perform such a task by dynamically selecting the most appropriate Classes of Service (among the ones supported by the network), this selection being driven by a novel heuristic Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) algorithm. The paper shows that such an approach offers the opportunity to cope with some practical implementation problems: in particular, it allows to face the so-called “curse of dimensionality” of MARL algorithms, thus achieving satisfactory performance results even in the presence of several hundreds of Agents

    Ageing Assessment of XLPE LV Cables for Nuclear Applications through Physico-Chemical and Electrical Measurements

    This paper investigates the changes in electrical and physico-chemical properties of low-voltage power cables for nuclear application when subjected to the combined effects of gamma radiation and temperature. Electrical response is evaluated by means of the dielectric spectroscopy, while the physico-chemical changes are analyzed at different structural scales through five complementary techniques (OIT measurements, FTIR spectroscopy, swelling measurements, DSC analysis and micro-indentation). The dielectric spectroscopy and the first two chemical techniques are shown to be appropriate for evaluating the development of radio-thermal ageing in low-voltage cables. Hence, the results reported in this article suggest the effectiveness of dielectric spectroscopy as a non-destructive technique for on-site cable diagnosis
